Our story
A new chapter for a Westlands landmark
For many years the red-brick building on Pilkington Avenue was St Peter's, a Methodist church at the heart of the Westlands. When it closed in 2021, local Muslims came together with a simple hope: that it would remain a house of worship and a place of service to the community.
By the mercy of Allah, and with the generosity of hundreds of supporters, the building became Masjid At-Taqwa, the first mosque in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Today it is home to daily prayers, a children's madrasa, classes for adults — and a warm welcome for anyone who walks through the door.

A halaqa with the imam, about an hour before Isha. Timings change with the seasons — please check with us.
Madrasa Al-Risalah (Tuesday)
5:30pm – 7:30pm Registered students
Qur'an and Islamic studies classes for children.
Jumu'ah prayer
1:30pm – 2:15pm Everyone
Friday khutbah and congregational prayer.

Good neighbours
Newcastle-under-Lyme has been a market town since 1173, and a home for people of many backgrounds ever since. The masjid is proud to be part of that story — alongside the churches, schools, Keele University and the many local groups that make this town what it is.
We welcome school visits and faith groups, we ask our congregation to park considerately for our neighbours, and our doors are open to anyone with a question about Islam.
